WeightWatchers Switch: Oprah Comes out of the Closet !
Keeping up with the times! Weight Watchers is now WW. Reading the tea leaves and the sudden evolution of the weight loss industry, WW has purchased the telehealth platform Sequence to prescribe on line and support the use of semaglutide medications. This just demonstrates the game changing role of GLP-1/GIP medications.
The legacy diet brand, more than half a century old, was on track to lose about $250 million for 2022.
Sequence/WW appears to be one of many internet advertised sites that provides services such as: telehealth screening, a prescription (not the actual meds) for those who meet their criteria, insurance coordinator, nutrition plan, routine clinician check-ins, and a companion app.
Oprah, an investor in WW, initially refused to deny use of semaglutide. Recently Winfrey revealed she uses weight loss medication, telling People Magazine, “The fact that there’s a medically approved prescription for managing weight and staying healthier, in my lifetime, feels like relief, like redemption, like a gift and not something to hide behind and once again be ridiculed for.”
RealWtLoss, over the next few months, hopes to gather real data about the burgeoning weight loss sites and provide some transparency as to their effectiveness, cost and outcomes.
